301 redirect and the yahoo store
This is a write up on a 301 redirect on a yahoo store and was written by Ben Pollak. Enjoy!
One suggestion is to turn on the 301 redirect for your store, which will consolidate any duplicate records in major search indices. This feature is already available to you and is found under Domain Names in your Store Control Panel. Essentially, there are several different URLs the point to your store, and this feature will consolidate them into a single main URL.
To explain further, there are two commonly used addresses for your store: domain.tld and www.domain.tld. Both of these have been fully indexed by major search engines like Yahoo!, Google and Bing, and each set of records has its own page ranking. This prevents the store from getting the full search credit that it deserves, and you from getting all the sales you should.
To enable the 301 redirect:
1) Go to smallbusiness.yahoo.com/services
2) If you are asked to sign into your account, do so
3) Click Store Control Panel
4) On the right side of the page, click Domain Names, in the Site Settings column
5) Select the domain you’d like to use to consolidate
- I would recommend domain.tld unless you do not want to use this for any reason
6) Tick the box marked “Redirect all host names to my domain.”
7) Click Set Redirect
A confirmation page will display, explaining what has been configured
9) In 15 minutes, check the status of the redirect to ensure it has been setup as you intended
